Using the Law Library

For students, faculty, alumni, and legal professionals.

Guidelines

The mission of the Widener law library is to serve the faculty, students, and staff of the law school. We also welcome visitors who wish to conduct legal research.

To provide a safe and respectful environment that is free of disruptive behavior for collaborative and individual study and research, the law library expects all library users to abide by the following code of conduct:

  • Patrons may not remove library items without proper checkout. Checkout privileges are extended to Widener Law School students, faculty, staff and alumni. Members of the Bar may also obtain borrowing privileges.
  • Study rooms are for the use of Widener Law School students and faculty. Group study has priority over individual use of a Study Room. Do not leave items unattended in a study room.
  • Beverages in spill-proof or closed containers are permitted in the library. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the library. In the event of a spill, please notify a staff person. Food is permitted in the library. Please be mindful of your fellow patrons, however, and avoid bringing in items with strong odors.
  • Noisy or extended conversations in person are discouraged in the library. Patrons in Harrisburg may hold cell phone conversations in the lobby of the building. Cell phone rings should be silenced while in the library.
  • The library is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Personal belongings should not be left unattended. Campus Safety maintains a Lost and Found.
  • Children are not to be left unattended in the library.
  • Disruptive behavior by anyone in the library may be referred to Campus Safety, and can lead to removal from the library. Disruptive behavior includes, but is not limited to:
    • Excessively loud conversation.
    • Cell phone conversations held outside designated locations.
    • Interference with another’s use of the library.
    • Display of sexually explicit images on computer screens.
