Students, faculty, alumni, staff, and visitor's possessing a visitor's card may check items out of our circulating collection according to the policies listed here:


Circulation Policies
Most circulating items can be borrowed for up to 3 weeks, but DVDs, videos, and items on reserve have the following limitations:

  • DVDs and videos may be checked out for 24 hours.
  • Items on reserve may only be checked out for 3 hours.

Please note that any item that is stamped non-circulating cannot be checked out.

Visitor Card Holders
Widener Law alumni may check out up to 4 books. Other visitor card holders may check out up to 2 books.

Fine Policies

Three Hour Loans

An item that circulates for three (3) hours may be renewed once, provided the item is not already overdue or has not been requested by another patron.


There is an initial overdue fine of $2.00, which accrues at .10/hour up to a maximum of $21.00. Fines will not be waived once the item(s) is returned.

A three hour loan item is presumed lost if not returned within 7 days of becoming overdue. You will be billed $75.00 for the item plus a billing fee of $15.00. The mandatory $15.00 billing fee is assessed even if the item is returned. If you do not return the overdue item, you will be charged $75.00 for replacement in addition to the $15.00 billing fee. Replacement copies may be accepted for lost items provided they are new. The $15.00 billing fee, however, will not be waived.

Three Day Loans

An item that circulates for three (3) days may be renewed once in person or by phone, provided the item is not already overdue or requested by another patron.

A fine for an overdue three day loan item begins the day after the item is due and accrues at a rate of $3.00/day/item, up to a maximum of $21.00. Fines will not be waived once the item(s) is returned.

A three day loan item is presumed lost if not returned within 7 days of becoming overdue. You will be billed $75.00 for the item plus a billing fee of $15.00. The mandatory $15.00 billing fee is assessed even if the item is returned. If you do not return the overdue item, you will be charged $75.00 for replacement in addition to the $15.00 billing fee. Replacement copies may be accepted for lost items provided they are new. The $15.00 billing fee, however, will not be waived.

Three Week Loans

Books that circulate for three (3) weeks may be renewed in person or by phone for an additional three weeks, provided the items have not been requested by another patron or have not been billed.

The mandatory $15.00 billing fee is assessed even if the item is returned. If you do not return the overdue item, you will be charged $75.00 for replacement in addition to the $15.00 billing fee.
