Insurance Law

This guide is produced in conjunction with Professor Christopher Robinette's Insurance Law Seminar.

Statutes and Regulations

Insurance is a heavily regulated industry.  There are federal insurance programs as well as state insurance programs.  Federal laws on insurance will be found in the United States Code.  The United States Code Annotated and the United States Code Service mightl be better resources than the U S. C. because they are updated frequently  and contain annotations.  State Insurance Laws will be found using the individual state's code.  Westlaw and Lexis+ will provide access to federal and state insurance laws.

50 State Surveys

If your research involves comparisons among states on insurance statutes or regulations you may want to utilize the 50 state surveys available through Westlaw and LexisNexis.  Each database covers a multitude of insurance topics so if you are unsuccessful in locating a survey using one database you may wish to try the other.  Another resource is the Subject Compilation of State Laws 1960-2012 available on HeinOnline .  The authors Cheryl Nyberg and Carol Broast Robertson review law review articles, books, electronic resources and note when authors will include lists of statutes and regulations on a topic.
