Orientation to Delaware Law Library

This library guide is for new faculty and students at Delaware Law School. It explains the various resources available at the library as well as who to contact with questions or problems.

Services for Full-time faculty

Faculty are invited to look at the library webpage on "Services for Faculty" to see a full list of library services. Below you will find a list of helpful "getting started" resources. 

Library Liaisons

  • Each Full-time faculty member is assigned a Library Liaison, see the list of liaisons here.
    • Contact your library liaison for any questions you have about the library, for help with research, to request an in-class presentation from a librarian, to get training on any of the library's databases, for help setting up clipping searches in Westlaw, Lexis or HeinOnline, to arrange library training for a student research assistant, or to make suggestions for additions to the collection.
  • Emeritus faculty are welcome to contact their previously assigned Library Liaison, or the Reference Desk for assistance: law.libref@widener.edu mail icon

Faculty Scholarship / Publications

  • Janet Lindenmuth tracks faculty publications and selects items for display in the faculty publication display case outside the library entrance. Please send her a list of your publications as well as any items you'd like displayed (you can either donate the item to the law library or retain ownership and we will return to you at your request.)  jslindenmuth@widener.edu mail icon
  • Full-time Delaware Law Faculty will be added to the Law School's Scholastica Law Review submission website as sponsored authors, please contact Maggie Stewart Adams if you have any questions mmstewart@widener.edu 
  • Authors are encouraged to register for a unique ORCID ID which can be used to consolidate information about your scholarship and affiliations. ORCID IDs can be obtained here: https://orcid.org/register
  • The University makes RefWorks, the research and citation management tool available to faculty and students. Sign-up for an account here: https://refworks.proquest.com/signup/email/
  • Perma.cc - Perma is a website that allows you to create permanent links to webpages for use in citations. If you would like an unlimited Perma account, sponsored by the law library please email Janet Lindenmuth. jslindenmuth@widener.edu

Research Database Access

  • To obtain a Westlaw or Lexis password, contact your library liaison or email Janet Lindenmuth mail icon jslindenmuth@widener.edu 
  • To obtain the CALI faculty authorization code, or the authorization code for your students, contact your library liaison.
  • Search the Library Catalog here, to see if we have a particular resource in print.
  • Search the Publication Finder here, to see if we subscribe to a particular resource online. You will be prompted to enter your Widener email address and password.

Course Reserves / Interlibrary Loan

  • To place a resource on Reserve for your students, contact your library liaison or send the material to Christy D'Antonio 
  • To request a book through Interlibrary loan, create an ILL account here, you will be prompted for your Widener username and password  to create an ILL account. Contact Christy D'Antonio for assistance mail icon  cldantonio@widener.edu

Website Updates

  • Contact the law school Web Manager, Nathan Garrison, ngarrison@widener.edu to get your faculty profile set up or to suggest changes to the Delaware Law School website.

Scanning and Duplicating

  • Contact the Copy Center, located on the first floor of the law building, for all duplicating needs: decopycenter@widener.edu 

Technology Help

  • Contact the University's Teaching and Learning Technology group for help using Canvas, attendance tracker or other technology tools
    • The law school's Instructional Technologist, Ty McQuillan, has an office in the law library: tjmcquillan@widener.edu mail icon
    • You can also email the Teaching and Learning Technology group at TLToffice@widener.edu mail icon
  • Contact the Law School's IT personnel for help with other technology needs or submit an ITS Help Ticket here
    • Dave Vallee, dsvallee@widener.edu, can help with classroom technology equipment or to request special recording or technology set up for special events.
    • The ITS staff can help with your law school laptop, wireless access, and Widener login or account issues as well as other technology issues. Not sure who to contact for an IT issue?  Fill out an ITS Help Ticket and your request will be routed to the correct people.

Exam Administration

  • Contact the Registrar's office for help with Exam Soft, Exam administration and the assignment of classrooms.

 

Requesting Review Copies of Textbooks

West Academic

  • Go to https://faculty.westacademic.com/ and sign or create an account using your @widener.edu email address.
  • Identify the title you wish to request and on the title's page click on “VIEW DIGITAL COPY”
  • For a physical copy or support contact the Law School Account Manager at 800-313-9378 or accountmanager@westacademic.com

Aspen Publishing

  • Register for an account at: https://aspenpublishing.com/account/register
  • Sign in and navigate to the page of the title you wish to request.
  • In the bottom right hand corner of the page, click "Request a Professor Review Copy."

Carolina Publishing

  • Create an account or log in at https://cap-press.com/ordering/login
  • Identify the title you want and click the button at the bottom of the page that says "COMP COPY"
  • Email comp@cap-press.com When making your examination copy request, please include the following information: 1) the name of the course for which the book is being considered; 2) the semester(s) the course is taught; 3) the approximate enrollment for the course(s); and 4) the name and address of the institution (your mailing address) at which the course is to be taught.
